These urban maternity shoot are such fun. This was a dreary, rainy day but this gorgeous model – and she’s on baby number three without a stretch mark in sight – was bright and cheerful. Thank you for letting me photograph your beautiful belly! I hope I get to meet the little one soon!

This was my first model last week when I was trying out the tilt-shift lens. She was one of my more gifted students when I was teaching and now she is off at NYU. Really, is it fair to look like this and be bright too?

Every year I think “I really should take a picture of my garden every week.” And every year I keep thinking I’ll get around to it any day now and then I’m raking leaves and not a flower picture in sight, or a flower.
This year I will be better. Starting this week I will take a picture every week until 52 weeks have gone by and I am back where I started.

I was glad we were able to get this mini-session in before this one’s hair was cut. He is so adorable with his long hair, though I am sure he will be equally cute after his trim. It always kind of amazes me how people confuse children’s genders. He just doesn’t look feminine to me, even with long hair. Of course, I have the gender stereo-typed children despite all my efforts to the contrary. My daughter likes all things pink and fluffy and my son likes balls and vehicles. And yet, still, people have asked me about their genders. Are there really that many toddler boys who embrace the fluffy pink clothes out there because I haven’t seen them.
So, here’s a last look at the long locks. In early June you’ll see the lad shorn.

You know, I didn’t look like this in high school. I was going to go drag out some pictures of myself at 16 and scan them to illustrate the point but, after looking at them, I decided to spare myself that particular form of public humiliation and simply ask you to believe me when I tell you that I did not look like this is high school.
I rented a lens to try out this week; it’s called a “tilt-shift” lens and it does a number of things but what I was interested in was tilting the focal plane. Because tilt-shift lenses are all manual focus, and because getting toddlers to hold still long enough to manually focus a camera on them is problematic at best, I lined up a series of older model to test the lens out and see whether I want to buy one.
This young woman answered an ad placed online and skipped Chemistry – with her mother’s blessing as I insisted that a parent be there – to do a 40-minute photo shoot in Elizabeth Park in Hartford. We trekked through mud, overgrown patches and I made her lean up against walls of peeling paint and she was great. She was so great I hit her up to be my a Senior Ambassador and help market my senior portraits and she agreed so you’ll be seeing her again.
Oh, didn’t I mention I was going to add senior portraits to my offerings? Silly me. Teenagers are so much fun to shoot, and unlike babies they want to have their pictures taken. I’ll have more details up in a few days but feel free to contact me before that if you are interested.
Meanwhile, enjoy this gorgeous girl, who is blessed with beauty and poise and confidence, all while barely out of childhood.

I shoot LOTS more pictures than I ever show anyone, least of all a client. Every once in a while someone asks why. I hereby submit my poor, innocent child as my example of why, no, you really don’t want to see them all.

Don’t forget that you can order gift certificates. These are available in any amount, though I recommend gifting someone with enough to get a session and several prints. Click HERE to order.

Here are some sneak peeks for you – we got some great shots in before the rain came. I don’t know how you are going to pick once you see the whole set. Thanks for letting me shoot your beautiful family.
