Twins on Vacation

June 30, 2009

We were away all of last week on a trip to visit my father. Now, since he lives on the other side of the country this is a wee bit of a pain. Airlines no longer offer food other than a 100 calorie back of cookies and TSA gives you the stink eye if you try to bring food through security. This time I printed out their own regulations and stuck them in the freezer bag with the snacks. The guy actually stopped to read the print out then “tested” my snacks to see if I were bringing on any explosives cleverly disguised as cheese crackers. I was not.

Oh. And, word of warning… the battery pack in a cheap portable DVD player does not last from Connecticut to California. Also, bring the remote as I discovered in mid-air that I could not navigate the menus of the DVDs without it. Did you know that some children’s DVDs do not go automatically from one mini-episode to the next? Isn’t it great to learn new things?

But, despite the horrors of cross-country airline travel with two toddlers we had a fabulous time. We went to the beach, to a mission, on a railroad, to two amusement parks. There was much swimming, and much eating. I think I actually have eaten my fill of corn dogs for the year.

I have only three words for this beauty’s mother: All. Girls. School. I mean, can you IMAGINE looking like this as a teenager? And being so poised?

Well, only a photo of one of them, actually, and I had to promise jelly beans to get this one. The other child had a soccer ball and no interest at all in the delayed gratification of jelly beans tomorrow where there was a soccer ball today. Also, parasols seem to have less of an irresistible pull for boys.

At the Fair

June 16, 2009

Every year West Hartford has a fair and this was the first year the kids were old enough to ride on the rides. They have cleared the 30″ height requirement. They loved it. Riding the cars was great. James won a ball (“Everyone wins a prize”) and Fiona rediscovered her love of cotton candy. Someday I’ll get to walk through the crafts section again. Maybe in 15 years.

Waiting for their turn:

I got to shoot a family last weekend and we had a blast. The mama is just about due to have baby number 2 and was a trooper about “walk here”, “sit there” and (believe it or not) “lie down over here.” And the girlie was ADORABLE. She is in my son’s preschool class so I became “James’ Mommy” by title. We did decide that when I do her newborn shoot (and a newborn shoot is included in all maternity shoots as long as we can do it within two weeks of birth) Dad is going to have to take Big Sister out of the house for a bit or we’ll never get the baby to sleep!

Thank you for letting me record this special moment in your life. I’ll give you a call when all the pictures are up and ready later this week.

There are no longer any available weekend dates in June. If you would like a portrait session in June contact me about evening sessions, though those are few and far between as well.

Book now to snag dates in July and August!

I can usually fit in a newborn (under 2 weeks of age) but PLEASE reserve the date now if you know you want a newborn shoot so you don’t get closed out.

I will be opening up fall dates for holiday bookings in July.

Twins at Play

June 9, 2009

We took the kids mini-golfing for the first time Saturday morning. Both had a great time. James had a meltdown when we had to leave – he wanted to play another round. He was quite good, actually, and got a hole in one on one hole and a hole in two on another, plus multiple holes in three. Of course, he played each hole about 5 times. There was no one behind us.

Well, the hair cut has happened. Confused? You need to pay closer attention – there will be a quiz on Friday. Quick review – I did a mini-shoot for a family earlier this month because Mama wanted to get some pictures of her son before she had his hair cut. Here he is with long hair last month, and here he is last weekend, kissing his sister.

Thank you for letting me shoot you guys yet again – you have such beautiful children it is always fun to play with them.
