She was about par for the course, to borrow a cliche from a sport I don’t even play.
Everyone always thinks their child is difficult. I could walk into the house, find a sleeping baby who didn’t wake for 2 hours, and her parents would apologize that she drooled on the blanket. None of them are difficult. They’re babies, and their job is to eat, sleep and pee. Nowhere in their job descriptions does it read “pose for photographs” and you can hardly blame a person who is only 2 weeks old for objecting to a sudden, radical increase in responsibility. I do say to allow 4 hours and if I’m out of there in under 3 you have to know you’re on the easy side.
So, after 2 1/2 hours this beauty graced us with about 4 minutes of sleep which makes her just about average for a newborn shoot. But look at her! Worth every minute, wouldn’t you say? I have the best job in the world.
Expect your full gallery in about 5-10 days. Because this shoot is part of the First Year Baby Package you can expect at least 10 images to choose from (probably more), and you’ll have a hard time choosing!

This venerable gentleman has just celebrated his 80th birthday and his daughter wanted to commemorate this milestone with a family portrait. Along with more conventional groupings I did a few that focus just on him, such as this one.

I did my standard spiel about how it takes adults a while to warm up to the camera, and that it is harder work to look natural in pictures than you might think at the beginning of the shoot. This is true for most people – most of us just look like a frozen deer in the headlights at first. About 5 minutes into the shoot I looked at the family matriarch – the gorgeous wife of the gentleman above – and said, “You’ve had your picture taken a lot, haven’t you?” Sure enough, she was a model in her youth. Her granddaughter has inherited this poise and, as you can surely tell below, looked great in every photo. Every single one.

I hope you enjoy your sneak peek – your full gallery should be ready early next week and then you’ll have the difficult problem of choosing which images you want!

When we were in Michigan last week I got the chance to do some family portraits for one of my husband’s cousins. Last I saw her she was posing for a snapshot with my babies at her wedding and now her first baby is older than they were then!
We don’t make the 12-hour drive to visit the Michigan family with twins often. We were going to do it last November but were struck down by some nasty virus the morning we planned to leave. This time the portable DVD player both destroyed our parenting ideals regarding limiting TV viewing and saved our sanity.
I’m glad I got there sane, however as I got to play (I mean, errr, take picture of) her gorgeous son and step-daughter for over an hour. I love this particular shot because it shows her stunning smile and has such sweet interaction between her and her babe.

This is, I admit, not technically an engagement session. This adorable couple has been married for three years and held a vow renewal 2 days before this shoot. BUT, he’s been deployed for much of that time so they act like the sweetest newlyweds you could hope to see.
I loved this session, and I hope you do too. Good luck on your move to the west coast!

This couple were just the loveliest people you could ever imagine and there is no way I could describe how joyous their vow renewal was so I will simple let the images speak for themselves. Thank you for letting me be a part of your day.

Every year I donate a session and print to the West Hartford Mom’s Club (of which I am not a member) auction and yard sale held to benefit St. Agnes Home, here in West Hartford. This year a pair of unbelievably sweet girls won the photo session. OK, actually their mom won. We met in Westmoor Park, which is one of my favorite places here in West Hartford so I was thrilled when their mom suggested it. This little girl, the younger of the two, may well be the sweetest angel I have photographed lately and picked a small bouquet of grasses, clover and flowers just for me.
Thank you for your donation to St. Agnes and I hope you have fun picking out your print.
