My Own Kidlets

October 29, 2009

I found a new pretty field. Or rather, it will be just gorgeous when the flowers are in bloom rather than being dramatically dried.

I’d like to note that the other child was also in the field. I dressed both of them in their Halloween costumes; she has a poodle skirt and he’s a 50’s greaser. Felt poodle skirts and Queen Anne’s Lace that has gone to seed are wildly attracted to one another and the eager seeds attach themselves to the felt, requiring hand removal. Which is to say, guess what I did after bedtime tonight. If your guess is “hand removed a zillion seeds from a felt skirt” you’re right!

This was as close as I got to getting both children in the frame together. Since my life is filled with one child coming while the other is going it seems a remarkably good portrait of, if not them, then their unstoppable energy. Note all the seeds on her skirt.

The initial point of the whole outing wasn’t to run them through fields in 50’s costumes but to take pictures of them drinking milkshakes in a diner in said costumes. That, I think, I accomplished. Perhaps this one should go on the Christmas card…

Just a quick update

October 25, 2009

Sorry I have been MIA. We are on the tail end of the fourth wave of illness to hit our house in 2 (3?) weeks. I should have some lovely finalized images from Bonnie and Lenny’s wedding to share this week but meanwhile I will simply say that any weekend that involves a stomach virus, an unconnected fever, pouring rain and a broken chair is one for the record books, and not in a good way!

I always tell people to pre-book the newborn session. We’ll schedule a tentative session shortly after your due date and then finalize that date after your little one arrives. Because the newborn period is so fleeting and even 2 weeks after birth babies stop curling up like little peanuts and start stretching out to explore all this new space, to get true newborn photos it’s important to get that session in as quickly as possible.

This little guy came a little early and so we rescheduled his session. And he was utterly adorable and cooperative. Having decided to arrive early he was now perfectly content to hang out and let the photographs happen. Or, perhaps, he’s still a little dude in a hurry and figured if he slept I’d go away sooner. Either way, I’ll be editing for ages because there is no way this session will stop at 20 proofs.

Enjoy the sneak peek – I should have your full gallery ready sometime, err, let’s say next week.

Bribery. In a full 2-hour session I don’t usually need to resort to bribery but for holiday mini sessions where we are getting the card pictures, and maybe some prints of one image for the family, in under 30 minutes bribery is a beautiful tool.

This gorgeous little guy was NOT having it until the lollipops came out.

Of course, some people don’t need encouragement to perform. Witness the future actress!

Thanks for coming over to play with me at the stream!

(Your holiday card mini-session comes with 24 folded cards so don’t forget to pick out the template you like when picking out your images! You can see all the template choices HERE.)

(You can actually see these two in their photos from last year – they were so cute they became a sample card!)

Computers are cantankerous little beasts. They are confusing, eat your order halfway through, refuse to behave, crash unpredictably and, really, it’s impossible to sit and select images for albums or accordion wallet books and really understand what is going to fit nicely without having an actual printed proof in your hand. I know the whole world is electronic but I’m going backwards to a more personal, human-centered approach.

At your session I will set up a date with you to meet and view the proofs. I’ll bring a complete set of 4X6 proofs to handle, look through and actually see in the real world. I’ll work with you to place your order, show you what albums and accordions look like and help you sort through all the options and collections to figure out how to get what you want at the best price. Since we’ll be working together I can easily customize packages to allow you the greatest flexibility in ordering – I just can’t beat the software into sufficient submission to get it to do that!

I will still offer online proofing after the in-person session for family and clients who are out of state or who simply wish to view the entire gallery.

I have some fabulous new collections! This summer I researched some fun new photography product offerings and I’ve tucked them into collections. Wallet accordion books and image boxes are NOT available outside of collections!

You’ve already seen the photo handbags; I get stopped every single time I carry mine and as soon as she saw it my mother-in-law demanded one of her own. These things get attention and if your own handbag shelf is overflowing (she says, looking guiltily into her closet), trust me, your mother wants one with pictures of her grandchildren on it. I like these so much I’ll be sending little bitty ones to some of my clients as a surprise holiday gift.

Wallet accordion books are the cutest little brag books I have ever seen. I have been experimenting with these this fall and everyone I’ve passed them out to just loves them. They come in sets of three and fold out to show a selection of images from your session – they are just the right size to tuck into a purse (or a stocking!) They are in EVERY collection, I like them that much. But you cannot get them outside of collections!

I’m also adding custom image boxes to my product line. These are 5X7 boxes, personalized with a picture from your session as well as a quote, your names or the date, filled with a 5X7 print of every image from your session. 20 proofs, 50 proofs. Doesn’t matter. If you order an image box you get them all.

And albums! Oh, how I love these albums. They are fine art books suitable for your coffee table with a customized photo cover; the pages lay flat and all have a UV protective coating. The little ones make fabulous gifts and the larger ones are a wonderful way to keep the images from your session easily accessible.

So, without further ado, here are the new packages I’m rolling out for the 2009 holiday season and beyond!

The Basic Collection, valued at over $1,000, includes 20 4X6 images from your session in a custom photo box, a set of three accordion wallets and 1 digital negative.

This Full Collection, valued at over $2,000 includes 2 11X14 wall prints, 10 gift prints (8X10 or smaller), 20 images from your session bound in an 8X8 album or delivered as 4X6 prints in a custom photo box, a set of three accordion wallets and 3 digital negatives.

The Grand Collection, valued at over $4,000, includes a 20X30 gallery wrapped canvas, a 10X10 album, an image box with 4X6 prints of every image in your slide show, 3 accordion wallet books, 2 11X14 prints, 10 gift prints, 3 high resolution digital negatives AND a copy of your slide show on a disk to view on your computer over and over again.

I’m keeping the Digital Collection, valued at $2,800, for people who prefer their files electronically. This includes 10 images from your session and get them on a disk suitable for printing. In addition to the disk the package includes a 5X7 print of each of your selected files as well the wallet accordion books. (I do really love those wallet accordion books.)

On October 9, 2009 I will be raising a-la-carte print prices. Session fees will stay the same; if you book your session before October 9 you will be able to order at the old price structure.

New a-la-carte prices
5X7 or smaller (including sets of 8 wallets): $40
8X10 – $65
11X14 – $100

There will be no shipping fees with the new prices! Larger prints prices remain the same – email me for a full price list!
