Faces of Motherhood

December 31, 2009

Some people get dealt lousy hands over and over again and remain the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. She’s no namby-pamby nice – more of a fiercely battling mama bear – but you couldn’t want to know a stronger or better woman. And if you happen to be a child with a congenital heart defect, this is the woman you want to be born to because she will pump extra milk and skim the cream off and feed it to you on a spoon, she will get up every few hours to nebulize you, she will mother you into confusing the pediatric cardiologist as, well, babies just don’t DO this well with that severe a defect. Unless this woman is the mom.

Oh, it was so cold this day. We had to take a break and go get some hot cocoa to warm up between rounds of shooting. And it was windy, as I’m sure you can tell. As much as I love children’s photography and as much time as I spend around kids it always amazes me when, given adverse circumstances such as cold and wind, kids are so much fun. I mean, if it had been out there alone I would have slunk into the nearest coffee shop and not come out until April. But this guy? Totally unfazed.

It’s really his eyes that slay me. And he’s still practically a baby! Can you imagine what he’s going to be like at 16?

Enjoy your peek! I think I want to borrow him this summer and shoot him while he skates!

The “You be the Photographer” contest has come to a close. I’d like to thank everyone who submitted a picture ~ y’all have some cute kids!

The winner, by a considerable margin, was Connor! Drop me an email to set up his free session.

There are a couple of honorable mentions: Delainey and Meredith, both of whom I’ll send a $100 gift certificate.

And as a big thank you towards everyone who played – send me an email by December 31, 2009 with your current mailing address and I’ll send you a $25 gift certificate.
