And now for something completely different…

When I’m not being all arty with a holga and paying my children to look woebegone on cue I can sometimes muster the energy to do crafts with the children. Behold, painted Christmas globes, for our “peace on earth” tree.
How, you ask, did I do this. OK, you didn’t ask but I’m telling you anyway.
1) Take leave of senses.
2) Purchase hollow, plastic, see through ornaments from the craft store.
3) Purchase paint in colors that look good when they run together. Orange and red? Yay. Green and blue? Yay. Orange and purple? I suppose if you like a kind of pukey brown than yay, otherwise avoid.
4) Purchase glitter paint.
5) Cover table in old sheet.
6) Drape children in smocks.
7) Use brushes to smear insides of globes with glitter paint. Allow to partially dry.
8 ) Dilute one color of paint to a nice swirling consistency. Pour in globe. I recommend having the parent pour the paint in. Don’t ask why I give this advice, just go with it and trust me.
9) Swirl.
10) Again with the allowing to dry for a while, until partially dry.
11) Remember step 8? Now do it again with the other color.
12) Stand globes upside down so paint excess paint will drain out and you’ll get pretty streaks.
13) Throw away sheet you were using a drop cloth.
14) Wash paint that soaked through dropcloth off table.
15) Reassure husband that art projects are important.
16) Take photos to document you managed an art project more elaborate than throwing watercolors and paper at the children.
