This was one of those childrens’ portrait sessions I was really grateful at the end it wasn’t my kids because there is simply no way I couldn’t have every single one of these. It was s fun mix of film – love that film look – and digital for these. I adore working with film and am always thrilled to have a client who appreciates the special feel of a film portrait!

Of course, my kids never actually cooperate like this. Mine aim more for the “running away from the camera as fast as my legs with shoes on the wrong feet will go” look. Since if they consistently gave me portraits like THESE my house would be wall-papered with photos perhaps I should be grateful.

People ALWAYS want to know how to dress their kids. Little boys in tank-tops and jeans are about as cute as it gets. It gives them the freedom to show me the bugs they find (and, err… your kids will probably end up dirty after a photo shoot with me – best not to plan a fancy dinner directly afterward) and to sit in the mud or climb a tree. Of course, I’m perfectly happy to send a girl in a linen dress into the mud too but there is just something about a little boy in a simple shirt and jeans that evokes timeless childhood innocence in a way that ties and button down shirts just don’t.

New Fresh Faces Call

March 4, 2010

I am seeking young people between the ages of 14 and 20 for my photography portfolio. Modeling job does not pay but you get a free mini portrait session and 1 8X10 print of your choice from the session. Fresh Faces shoot must be scheduled on a weekday morning and will run for about 30 minutes between 9 and 11AM. All shoots are done in either Blue Back Square, West Hartford Center or Westmoor Park. I will either choose or offer you a choice based on what I need.

Free Sessions in April

February 18, 2010

Well, the web site and blog are being revamped and they are a MESS. Oy! Web design is not the most fun thing to do when one child is vomiting and the other is engaging in jealous, attention-seeking behaviors. Actually, I’m not sure designing a photography portrait web site is EVER fun, even if you didn’t throw sick kids into the mix.

Miss Sickie seems better now, and 1 bowl of soup later shows no signs of regurgitation. Fingers crossed it remains so.

Meanwhile, I wanted to give a heads up to current clients who didn’t get the newsletter. Wait – you aren’t subscribed? Go subscribe to it now. Right now. I’ll wait for you to come back.

There. See, that didn’t take long. The next newsletter will go out sometime in March. Maybe April. In theory once a month seems good, but then things get busy.

In the last email newsletter – that one you didn’t read – there was, well, news about free sessions I am offering in April. Go sign up for one of 10 mini-session slots on April 10th. Well, there are fewer now. There is a $100 deposit to reserve your time which is non-refundable if you cannot make it but which can be applied in full to your print order. Don’t like any of your prints? I’ll refund the deposit. But you’ll like them. I know you.

Go forth and reserve your slot now.

Oh, it was so cold this day. We had to take a break and go get some hot cocoa to warm up between rounds of shooting. And it was windy, as I’m sure you can tell. As much as I love children’s photography and as much time as I spend around kids it always amazes me when, given adverse circumstances such as cold and wind, kids are so much fun. I mean, if it had been out there alone I would have slunk into the nearest coffee shop and not come out until April. But this guy? Totally unfazed.

It’s really his eyes that slay me. And he’s still practically a baby! Can you imagine what he’s going to be like at 16?

Enjoy your peek! I think I want to borrow him this summer and shoot him while he skates!
