Snow Princess Planning

Snow Portraits in West Hartford CTI’m starting to think about what I want to put Fiona in for her snow princess shot this winter. Last year I used a silver party dress, a bit of a nod to her fondness for fairies as fairies do not need coats. This year I’m contemplating something vintage with a white fur muff and boots that button up the front. Or maybe Crew Cuts, depending on my energy level after Christmas.

These sessions are special little oddities. They are magical, but they do require a bit of commitment and flexibility. The weather has to be right – there has to be enough snow to look snowy but not so much a child is waist deep in the drifts. The light has to be right – too sunny and it won’t work; this is one of those situations where an overcast day is your friend. For my own child I simply inform her that today’s the day, and we might be a bit late to school what with that shooting her and then feeding her hot chocolate afterwards. For clients it’s harder. You have to get on a wait list, letting me know you want to be contacted when conditions are right and then be prepared to jump on it when the weather and light gods all align themselves in our favor. Magic doesn’t come easily.

If you would like more information about snow sessions please email me at email@stacieturnerphotography.com and I’ll forward the details to you.

I shoot to melt my own heart. ‘Tis true. I’ve driven past this path a dozen times but I finally took my own loves there to shoot them dancing in the snow for a winter portrait, warmed them up with a little color because I’m only 99% a black and white portrait photographer and every once in a while the eye wants a little variety. I only wish I knew where to hang these as I want to print a large giclee fine art print so I can look at it on the wall every day. I’ll find a place.
