Don’t Forget About Holiday Mini Session!

These are a great way to get beautiful children’s portraits to give for the holidays at a discounted price. On weekday mornings at 9AM you can book a 1-hour session for only $200; that session fee includes not only the session itself but 12 prints: 1 11X14, 1 8X10 and 10 5X7s. Since my regular session fee is $200 that is basically over $500 worth of prints for free. That catch? (You knew there had to be one for $500 worth of free prints, right?) All the prints have to be the same image, all shoots must be in the mornings and shoots are only available in limited locations: Elizabeth Park, Westmoor Park or West Hartford Center. THERE ARE ONLY 12 DATES LEFT. Actually, 10 dates, as two of those have been promised to newborns who have yet to arrive in the world.

I found a new pretty field. Or rather, it will be just gorgeous when the flowers are in bloom rather than being dramatically dried.

I’d like to note that the other child was also in the field. I dressed both of them in their Halloween costumes; she has a poodle skirt and he’s a 50’s greaser. Felt poodle skirts and Queen Anne’s Lace that has gone to seed are wildly attracted to one another and the eager seeds attach themselves to the felt, requiring hand removal. Which is to say, guess what I did after bedtime tonight. If your guess is “hand removed a zillion seeds from a felt skirt” you’re right!

This was as close as I got to getting both children in the frame together. Since my life is filled with one child coming while the other is going it seems a remarkably good portrait of, if not them, then their unstoppable energy. Note all the seeds on her skirt.

The initial point of the whole outing wasn’t to run them through fields in 50’s costumes but to take pictures of them drinking milkshakes in a diner in said costumes. That, I think, I accomplished. Perhaps this one should go on the Christmas card…

It’s been a while since I had one of my monthly contests and to make up for it I am hosting an awesome contest! Here’s the deal…

1. Have a little photo session with a child in your life (or you can submit a recent picture, if you prefer!).

2. Send your ONE favorite picture to me via email, email@stacieturnerphotography.com, I will then post them to a special contest album on my Facebook fan page.

3. Join my Facebook fan page, either by searching for “Stacie Turner Photography” on Facebook, or by the link found here.

4. Send people (your friends, family, co-workers, etc.) to join my Facebook fan page and VOTE for their favorite picture (i.e. YOURS!)

5. The winner will be announced on December 16th based on the total number of votes for each entered image. Votes are counted as comments on each individual image/entry. A person must be a fan of my Facebook page to vote. Votes from people that are not fans will not be counted!

RULES!

- Entries must be submitted by FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 20th! I will post all entries on Saturday, November 21st, and the voting will begin immediately!!

- ONE entry per person.

- ONLY separate comments to a picture that state “vote” will be counted as a vote. Simply clicking “like” by the picture will NOT count as a vote!

- ONE vote per person!

- Voting will continue from November 21 through December 15. Winner will be announced on December 16, 2009!!!

- Submitted images must be of a child or children under the age of 18.

- For obvious reasons, photos taken by professional photographers will not be accepted.

THE PRIZE!!!

The winner will receive a complimentary portrait session with me and a CD with the 10 best shots in full-resolution, with a print release! That is an $1050 value!!!

The session must take place in the Greater Hartford area and be redeemed by May 30, 2010. A signed model release will also be required prior to the session.

Sorry I have been MIA. We are on the tail end of the fourth wave of illness to hit our house in 2 (3?) weeks. I should have some lovely finalized images from Bonnie and Lenny’s wedding to share this week but meanwhile I will simply say that any weekend that involves a stomach virus, an unconnected fever, pouring rain and a broken chair is one for the record books, and not in a good way!

I always tell people to pre-book the newborn session. We’ll schedule a tentative session shortly after your due date and then finalize that date after your little one arrives. Because the newborn period is so fleeting and even 2 weeks after birth babies stop curling up like little peanuts and start stretching out to explore all this new space, to get true newborn photos it’s important to get that session in as quickly as possible.

This little guy came a little early and so we rescheduled his session. And he was utterly adorable and cooperative. Having decided to arrive early he was now perfectly content to hang out and let the photographs happen. Or, perhaps, he’s still a little dude in a hurry and figured if he slept I’d go away sooner. Either way, I’ll be editing for ages because there is no way this session will stop at 20 proofs.

Bribery. In a full 2-hour session I don’t usually need to resort to bribery but for holiday mini sessions where we are getting the card pictures, and maybe some prints of one image for the family, in under 30 minutes bribery is a beautiful tool.

This gorgeous little guy was NOT having it until the lollipops came out.

Of course, some people don’t need encouragement to perform. Witness the future actress!

How sad is this? This little guy has graduated from the baby plan and is a grown up toddler now so I won’t get to see him every 3-6 months to take his picture. *sob* We had such a perfect morning; the quintessential brisk October day with leaves and pumpkins. I admit, I had no idea when I suggested posing the babe with the pumpkins he would try to eat one of them. Fortunately, pumpkins are not choking hazards. Nor, apparently, are they all that tasty raw.
